Welcome to my 928 page. I bought the car used and
have been taking pictures as I went through the repair process. Note that
some of the pictures are large, and my link is slow, so they are all separate.
First to go were the 12" vented brakes (no picture). They still squeek
after I replaced them, but I hang the wife in the straps more often now.
Next to go was the water pump. A picture of the front of the engine,
with the covers off, showing the water pump and the cam belt. I got
to go to a PCA drivers education at Sebring,
which was a blast! I had put in new stock fluid before we went, but it
wasn't good enough. I boiled the brakes at 120MPH on the back stretch.
Don't try this at home! Anyway, I replaced the fluid with Super DOT Blue,
and I'll see what happens next time. There was a white
928 there as well.
The killer repair was the torque tube. It had been
replaced incorrectly and wore out prematurely. A picture of the car in
the shop. Notice the tow hook. First to come off
is the exhaust. Notice the cats
and the O2 sensor. A picture of the transaxle.
Damn if it doesn't say Mercedes Benz. A view of the back
and front, from underneath. A picture of the
rounded splines from the shaft and the adaptor
it goes into. And a picture of what the other
(good) end looks like.
The latest to go was the fuel computer. It's located by the passenger foot well. The outside and inside of the computer (one of many).
And many dollars more (but worth it) out of the shop. And lastly, a couple of pictures of what she looks like in the driveway, from the front and back.
